From time to time you’ve seen our good buddy Tom on these pages…Tom is a good friend of the company, one of my riding buddies, and just a cool guy. He’s a retired LAPD detective and he’s the first guy that introduced me to the wonderful world of WRX Subies when he tossed me the keys to his white STI (wow, was that car fast!). If you’ve seen our videos, it’s usually Tom who’s riding right in front of me.
Tom’s had an interesting project going for the last year…he bought what was literally a barn find Triumph Trident, and he’s running it at El Mirage this weekend. I saw Tom this morning and he told me the engine is 100% stock. Tom is hoping to touch 125 mph during this weekend’s run, and ultimately, to top 140 mph.
I asked Tom what that barn find business was all about, and it’s the real deal. He actually pulled it out of a barn in Lodi, and it had little animals living in and around it. The bike hadn’t run in 5 years, but Tom got it running. Tom said he put about 100 miles on it after that, never wandering more than about 5 miles away from his house in case the bike broke down. That was before the project he undertook to bring the motorcycle to its current configuration.
However fast it goes, this sure is one beautiful motorcycle.
