CSC SG250 San Gabriel: Even BETTER for 2019!

OLD SCHOOL COOL HAS NEVER BEEN MORE AFFORDABLE!

The CSC SG250 San Gabriel motorcycle is a throw-back to the 1960’s. After the super-successful introduction in 2018, the SG250 returns with NEW features in 2019.

CSC SG250

2019 CSC SG250 in Gloss Black with LED tail light and turn signals

The CSC SG250 San Gabriel reminds us why we love to ride. The San Gabriel is handsome, yet rugged. Its stripped down to the essentials and intentionally avoids complications. The SG250 is equipped with a proven 230cc, air-cooled counter-balanced engine. CSC has brought back the café racer, equipped with everything you need for heart-pumping, purist motor bike riding – and nothing you don’t!

CSC SG250

2019 CSC SG250 San Gabriel – NEW larger front AND rear disc brakes!

The 230cc motor used in the CSC SG250 (and the CSC TT250 Enduro) is a modernized version of the “world-design” motorcycle CG engine first developed by Honda back in 1975. Honda and other manufacturers wanted to export motorcycles into the growing market of Southeast Asia. But there were no motorcycle “dealers” in these emerging markets, only local repair shops which disassembled and repaired broken down motorcycles. Customers brought their motorcycles in only after they had stopped running. The concept of routine maintenance was completely foreign to the motor bike owners.

So Honda developed a new motorcycle engine that was specifically designed to require minimal maintenance. The lightweight, short-pushrod overhead valve 125cc engine featured a gear-driven, single camshaft structure for both intake and exhaust. The shaft is located where one would find the cam-chain housing in the overhead cam engine. This engine was later manufactured in a new factory in Brazil and Honda introduced a new motorcycle for the South American market called the CG125 Titan.

Over 40 years later, the original CG125 patent has long-expired. Today, Zongshen, the manufacturer of the CSC SG250, has a modern factory that builds over 3 MILLION engines each year. Zongshen builds both a 125cc and a 230cc version of the old CG engine. CSC distributes only the 230cc version in its modern motorcycles, with the additional update of a counter-balancer. This dependable motor is available in both the CSC SG250 San Gabriel and the CSC TT250 Enduro.

CSC SG250

2019 CSC SG250 San Gabriel with NEW stainless steel exhaust

By American standards, 230cc is considered small. But in the CSC SG250, this engine is placed in a motorcycle that weighs only 273 pounds! That gives the CSC SG250 San Gabriel brisk acceleration and a cruising top end of 70 miles per hour! Fuel economy is typically over 65 miles per gallon. When combined with a four-gallon gas tank, this provides the rider with a range exceeding 200 miles.

There are two main categories of CSC SG250 San Gabriel owners. There are riders who are buying their first motorcycle. These riders appreciate the nimble handling and performance of the 230cc engine in the lightweight chassis. New riders also enjoy the simplicity of the dash, controls, and especially the low-maintenance requirements of the SG250.

The second (and largest) category of CSC SG250 San Gabriel owners are experienced bikers who already own several motorcycles. The café racer-style appeals to experienced riders for its vintage and rebellious heritage. Its streamlined, minimalist, and retro. Experienced riders are attracted to the SG250 because of what it ISN’T. The SG250 San Gabriel isn’t high-tech. No electronic suspension; no surround-sound stereo; no trip computer; and no hassles! Just turn the key and ride – OR stomp the kick starter for another reminder of a simpler time!

Many experienced riders have dreamed of rebuilding an old-school project bike. But most of these older “host” bikes require massive restoration that costs thousands. In contrast, the 2019 CSC SG250 is available NEW, including a 12-month unlimited mileage warranty, for ONLY $2,195.00.

CSC SG250

The CSC SG250 San Gabriel is faithful to the appearance of the old bikes, but also well-equipped with important features like 17-inch tires on aluminum rims, full instrumentation including a digital speedometer, tachometer, odometer, fuel gauge, gear indicator, and neutral light. You have inverted front forks and adjustable rear reservoir shocks. Stopping power is provide by a huge front and rear disc brakes – NEW for 2019!

CSC SG250

Old bikes can’t compete with the new CSC SG250 that includes an LED headlight, LED brake light and turn signals, 300-watt alternator, a 2-person seat plus rubber-cushioned foot pegs for driver and passenger, and even a locking gas cap. All these convenience features are STANDARD equipment on the 2019 CSC SG250 San Gabriel.

CSC Motorcycle Owners to Rally in Moab, Utah

CSC Motorcycle Owner’s Rally: Moab, Utah 2019

For the first time in 2019, CSC Motorcycles will sponsor a “CSC Owners’ Rally” in Moab, Utah on May 22, 23, and 24.

CSC Motorcycle Owners will arrive in Moab, Utah on the afternoon of May 21st. There will be time to tour the cool, old mining town. If you haven’t been there, don’t miss a side trip to Arches National Park.

Dozens of Arches await in Arches National Park!

There are numerous motels, B & B’s, and cabins to rent in the Moab area. There are also several campgrounds, some of which have small cabins that accommodate several people. If you are into roughing it, Moab is surrounded by Forest Service land with primitive campsites with minimal facilities, and BLM lands where free boondock camping (no facilities) is permitted.

There are festivals, car shows, and rallies every week during the summer in Moab. Riders are encouraged to make reservations as soon as possible to secure a spot at the best rates. See also www.DiscoverMoab.com.

The Moab area has scenery that cannot be matched anywhere in the U.S. There are unlimited routes and trails for EVERY type of motorcycle. Each day will include two planned rides, with an easy and harder dual-sport route option. Randy will be leading the easy rides each day. Other experienced riders will pair up for the additional moderate routes.

All riders will gather each morning at 8:30 am at McDonald’s on the corner of Kane Creek Road and Main street (Highway 191). The following daily routes are planned, with last minute changes a possibility depending on riders and weather. Note that most of these routes enter National Park lands and an entry fee is required – you may want to get an annual pass to save on daily fees.

TEST RIDE THE RX4 UP IN THE SAN GABRIELS

LIFE IS GOOD ON THE RX4

Throughout my life, having owned over 50 motorcycles, I’ve continually sought the bigger, faster and more technologically advanced models to fill what seemed to be an insatiable appetite for that adrenaline rush. But along with that came higher purchase prices, higher maintenance costs due to more complexity and consequently more dealer dependence and also higher insurance costs. Along with the monetary increases, the size and weight increased as well and were becoming more difficult to manage in my advancing years.

In the past year I have been fortunate enough to be introduced to the exciting world of CSC motorcycles. A new concept of marketing and a new approach to motorcycling that represents thinking “outside the box” or, more accurately, “inside the box”. This new business model created by Steve Seidner is a form of mail order that allows the buyer to choose the model he/she wants, and it is shipped to your house in a box, all assembled, tested, gas in the tank and ready to ride. And the various models represent the concept of smaller is better rather than bigger is better.

My first exposure to the CSC family was their TT250, a 250cc Enduro style bike that harkens back to yesteryear when small displacement bikes were inexpensive, easy to work on and fun to ride. I bought it to have some fun in the woods around my home in Oregon. My 1200cc BMW was great in the canyons but I wanted some diversity.  To my surprise, the TT surpassed all my expectations and I found myself riding it all the time with a big grin on my face. And with CSC’s supplied service manual and their video tutorials on their website, I was able to do all the maintenance myself at no cost.  One day, while looking over their website, their RX3 250cc Adventure Bike caught my attention. Here was a bike that could offer the same lightweight, economical fun as the TT but with more power and luggage. I could now travel farther to explore more territory. So, soon another box arrived with my new beautiful copper colored RX3.  More miles and more smiles. So much so that I sold my BMW and haven’t looked back. So far, with a combined 5000 miles on both bikes I haven’t experienced a single problem. Both are comfortable, reliable and 60 mpg economical.

This past week I had an opportunity to be in Los Angeles and paid a visit to CSC in Azusa, about 45 minutes away, to check out their latest and greatest model, the new RX4. This is essentially a beefed up RX3 keeping the same overall dimensions but adding a 450cc single and dual disc brakes. Steve was kind enough to allow Joey, the service manager, to guide me up into the San Gabriel mountains for an hour long, exciting ride in the canyons. Wow !!! What a remarkable motorcycle. Plenty of power, torque everywhere and nimble yet planted handling. Move over RX3, your big brother is moving in and he is now my bike of choice. What a remarkable, well sorted out bike that retains all the wonderful characteristics of the RX3 but adds even more fun to the equation. The only problem is that I have to wait until Spring for the new models to arrive.

Thanks Steve for allowing me to enjoy this unique opportunity and Joey for leading me on a great test ride. Anyone on the fence about buying one of these better get their deposit in now because I’m sure the first shipment will sell out fast.

CSC Motorcycles Promotes 2019 Group Riding Opportunities

CSC Motorcycles operates with the core principle: CREATING MOTORCYCLING FUN YOU CAN AFFORD!

We believe it is equally important to BOTH supply great motorcycles that are great values AND to provide opportunities to experience the best of adventure motorcycling. Over the past few years, CSC Motorcycle owners have combined for memorable rides across the U.S. and into Mexico.

CSC TT250 Owners in Baja, Mexico 2016

For 2019, CSC encourages motorcycle owners to participate in group rides, meet and learn from other CSC Motorcycle owners, and experience some of the best riding routes and scenery in the U.S. Randy Reek, an experienced dual-sport rider and long-time CSC Motorcycle owner is coordinating these riding opportunities.

Note: due to popular demand, CSC is planning several riding opportunities in the western states and Midwest. This means that CSC will not be planning a ride to Baja, Mexico in 2019. Following is a brief summary of the planned rides and dates. More details on each of these riding opportunities will follow.

CSC Motorcycles National Park Tour

Overlooking Canyonlands National Park, Moab, Utah

CSC Motorcycles Group Ride Number 1: For the first time in 2019, CSC will sponsor an “Owners’ Rally” in Moab, Utah on May 22, 23, and 24. The Moab area has scenery that cannot be matched anywhere in the U.S. There are unlimited routes and trails for EVERY type of motorcycle. Each day will include an easy and harder dual-sport route option. Randy will be leading one ride each day. Other riders will pair up for the additional routes.

CSC Motorcycles National Park Tour

CSC RX3 on the White Rim Trail, Canyonlands National Park

The easier dual-sport routes will be appropriate for CSC RX4, RX3, and TT250 riders, including less experienced dirt riders. The tougher routes (White Rim Trail, for example) will be reserved for the most experienced riders with motorcycles outfitted with heavy knobby tires, skid plates, along with tools, food and water. But much of the best scenery around Moab (Arches National Park, for example) can also be viewed riding street bikes, so even SG250 San Gabriel owners and any others who want to stick to the pavement will enjoy the great riding opportunities.

CSC Motorcycles National Park Tour

Broken Arch, Arches National Park

CSC Motorcycles Group Ride Number 2: Randy will be leading a dual-sport tour on the Trans-Wisconsin Adventure Trail in late summer 2019. The “T.W.A.T.” extends the length of Randy’s home state of Wisconsin for 600-miles. This is a three-day route (June 25 to 27) on mostly sand and dirt forest roads from Galena, Illinois to Cornucopia on the shore of Lake Superior. Plan for an additional two or three days by highway to complete a full circle. Group size will be limited to 10 to 12 riders.

CSC Motorcycles National Park Tour

The Trans-Wisconsin Adventure Trail

The T.W.A.T. is perfect for CSC RX4, RX3 and TT250 riders – with knobby tires. This will be a self-supported camping trip (riders must carry camping gear) – although motels and diners aren’t far off the route.

CSC Motorcycles National Park Tour

Iconic scenery in Monument Valley

CSC Motorcycles Group Ride Number 3: To showcase the new 2020 CSC RX4, a longer road trip is also planned for early Fall 2019. CSC RX4 owners will be invited to join a 1300-mile highway loop through the Southwest. This “National Park Tour” will include sections of Route 66, the Grand Canyon (South and North Rims), Monument Valley, Moab, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. The route will consist of seven days of spectacular riding in epic destinations across Arizona and Utah. Group size will be limited to 10 to 12 riders.

CSC Motorcycles National Park Tour

Breathtaking Zion National Park

CSC RX4 owners can also elect to start from CSC Motorcycles in Azusa, CA (which will add another four days and 850-miles to the seven-day loop.) Or riders – including also CSC RX3 owners – can join anywhere along the circular route. The seven-day loop will start in Williams, AZ on September 5th and conclude on September 11th. (Riders leaving CSC in California will start on September 3 and return to Azusa on September 13.) National Park Tour riders will carry their gear and tools but stay in motels each night.

CSC Motorcycles National Park Tour

Indescribable Bryce Canyon National Park

Finally, while not officially “sponsored” by CSC, we will also help match riders who are riding other tours this summer. Are you planning to ride part or all of the Trans-America Trail or any of the Backcountry Discovery Routes? Will you be touring your home state or a different cross-country route? Planning to cross over and ride in Canada or Mexico? We will also try to help CSC Motorcycle owners pair up to ride other routes. Stay tuned for details on each of the rides mentioned above. Revzilla Rides Again: Cruising on the SG250 San Gabriel

“The SG250 is the coolest new motorcycle under $2,000.”

Andy Greaser from Revzilla recently took the CSC SG250 San Gabriel out for a spin. He confirmed what we already knew: the SG250 is a hoot to ride!

Here is a link to the full article on the Revzilla Common Thread blog. In summary, Andy liked the CSC SG250 for three reasons:

  1. The SG250 San Gabriel is cheap to buy. For $1,995.00 you can’t begin to restore a 1980’s “project bike”.
  2. It’s fun to ride! The SG250 is light, nimble, and uncomplicated – pretty much the opposite of the majority of most new motorcycles out there.
  3. The San Gabriel has the “retro” look of old school cafe racers, combined with modern gauges and electronics (LED turn signals, etc.). Bonus: being a brand-new motorcycle, The San Gabriel includes a 12-month unlimited mileage warranty from CSC Motorcycles.

Andy concludes: “I think the work and expense necessary to refresh an older bike needs to be considered when comparing it to CSC’s offering. I like that CSC gives riders an option, because not everyone will want to take on the task of building their own custom motorcycle to achieve a similar look.”

So if you want to spend as little as possible on a motorcycle. If you want to spend your time riding, not wrenching. And if you want to ride a bike that simply puts a smile on your face,  you need to consider the CSC SG250 San Gabriel.

Preparing for a Dual-Sport Adventure: Getting Started

Dual-Sport Adventure 101

At CSC Motorcycles, our motto is CREATING MOTORCYCLING FUN YOU CAN AFFORD!

Motorcycles have been our business and passion for over 30 years. CSC Motorcycles is the exclusive importer and distributor for some of the most innovative and affordable dual-sport motorcycles in North America – including the RX3 Adventure, the TT250 Enduro, and the new 2020 CSC  RX4.

Many CSC Motorcycle buyers are experienced riders who have owned (or still own) many different bikes. But just as many buyers are new to motorcycling, and especially unfamiliar with dual-sport riding. These newer riders are learning how to safely handle traffic, weather, plus the care and maintenance of their new motorcycle.

So, it is understandable why many new motorcycle owners are reluctant to strike out on their own, hesitant to plan or attempt a multi-day motorcycle trip. And that is why CSC has made a consistent effort to organize motorcycle trips on behalf of our owners.

We are now planning a few trips and rallies for CSC Motorcycle owners for 2019. Stay tuned for specific dates and details soon. But – until then – we will help you get started with organizing your gear and your bike for a dual-sport adventure (whether with other CSC Motorcycle owners or on your own.)

To start, we have linked to an article by Randy Reek that deals specifically with this issue: How to Prepare for a Dual-Sport Trip. This includes road trips as well as off-road riding. Randy is an experienced rider, having notched the Trans-America Trail and the Arizona, Utah, and Colorado Backcountry Discovery Routes. He completed a “bucket list” solo motorcycle trip to Alaska. And Randy is also a TWO-TIME CSC RX3 Adventure owner. You may have already read his account of riding the White Rim Trail in Utah with two other RX3 owners, and watched the videos.
