I love Chevys and I especially love Corvettes. I bought one 12 years ago brand new, a Z06, because it was the deal of the century. I was eligible for the GM employee discount back then and I just couldn’t walk away from a deal like that…
I’ve been driving my Z06 since then, and it has been great. Fast, reliable, good fuel economy, and it always makes me feel good. I know they’re old guy cars and all that. I just think they are the ultimate in cool transportation.
Well, last night, I felt my Z06 brakes shudder and the car flashed a warning message to service the active handling system. No big deal, I thought. I’m due. So I stopped at the local Chevy dealer and they are taking care of it for me, along with all of the other routine maintenance I never had done. It will be a hefty maintenance bill, but amortized over 12 years it’s actually pretty cheap.
I couldn’t let that opportunity (being at the Chevy dealer) go to waste. I asked where the new Corvettes were and they showed me. The dealer had a brand new 2016 Z06 in stock. I sat in it. It was awesome. It was the right color for a Z06, too…
Before adding any of the dealer fees, taxes, documentation fees, etc., that new Z06 cost almost exactly 2.5 times what I paid for mine 12 years ago. That was an eye opener. The other thing I noticed is that the new Corvette seems to be substantially larger than mine. But it was nice. Not two and a half times as nice, but still nice. In fact, I don’t think it was even as nice as my Z06. I like mine.
I think I just saved $109,363.00.
