Overland Expo…muddy and fun!

The weather was moderately better today, but it was still cold and wet.   It rained all night and it was snowing when we woke up, but the sun put in an appearance or two.  All that precipitation, though, made for interesting surface conditions at Overland Expo…

Susie is out here with me and when we had a break in the rain we walked around the Expo grounds a bit.   This Mercedes camper was pretty cool…

Action at the CSC booth was brisk.   Folks had heard about the RX3 and were eager to see it in person…

We saw quite a few friends, we made quite a few friends, and we had a good time.   Here’s a shot of Juddy and Fernando.   Both of these good guys ride CSC RX3 motorcycles.  You’ll remember Juddy from our Baja trip.   Fernando wanted to go on the Baja Run but couldn’t make it this year…he’ll be riding with us on the next one…

I finally had the great pleasure of meeting our good buddy Craig, who is a real gentleman.   He is also an RX3 rider, and he loves his new motorcycle.   I wanted to grab a photo of Craig, but I was enjoying the conversation with him so much I forgot to do so.   I finally remembered the camera as Craig was leaving on his RX3…

I got to know Paul better on this trip.   He’s an amazing guy.

I finally had an opportunity to meet Andrew Pain.  I had corresponded with Andrew before, but this was my first chance to actually meet him.   Here’s a shot of Andrew and Steve…

Andrew is an expert and author on world travel on small displacement motorcycles.   He’s written several books on this topic, and he’s covered some serious miles on his Yamaha 250.   He rode here from Wisconsin on his Yamaha…

Andrew and his girlfriend are buying two new motorcycles, and you can guess what they are going to be.   We’re eager to see this happen, as we know Andrew will be writing about his exploits on his new RX3.

So, on to a new topic…we’ve seen a comment or two about the RX3’s seat.   It seems there are a couple of guys out there who think the RX3 seat is uncomfortable on a long ride.

Folks, I just rode 1700 miles in Mexico on my RX3, I did another 600 miles through California and Arizona to get here to the Overland Expo, and I’ll be rolling on another 500 miles on the trip home tomorrow.   I have the sheepskin cover on my bike’s seat, and that makes long distance riding quite a bit more comfortable.  It still gets a bit tiring, though (that’s a fancy way of saying I get a sore butt from long hours in the saddle).   My solution? I just stand on the pegs for a few seconds when my butt needs a break, and I’m good for another 30 or 60 miles before I do so again.

Anyway, you’re probably wondering where I’m going with this discussion.   Well, here’s the deal….Steve and I watched a steady stream of ADV bikes rolling by today, and we concluded that they must have absolutely terrible seats.   We base this conclusion on the fact that nearly every rider was standing on the pegs as they rode by.

We’re thinking we might have a market for CSC RX3 seats for everyone who rides an adventure touring motorcycle.   I mean, why else would all these riders be up on the pegs?

On a more serious note, we are in the process of developing a seat option for long distance riding.   It’s a few weeks out, so keep an eye on the blog.  We’ll post about the new seat option as soon as we have it.
