Louis and John checking in…

Hey, here’s a nice note from my good buddies Louis and John, along with some fantastic photos!

Hi Joe!

Just checking in with you, have really enjoyed your travels abroad! John and I have been busy in various mountains around San Diego. I included a couple of pics of Nate Harrison Grade, which is the original dirt road going up to 6200 feet, on the southwest side of Palomar mountain.  All pics are of John.

Thought you would enjoy the views……

Cheers—Louis and John

PS: The bikes are fabulous!!!

TT250 luggage options for Baja and beyond…

We’ve had several people sign up for the “Baja-lite” 4-day ride down to San Felipe and numerous additional inquiries.   We’re doing this as a TT250 ride, but anybody who has an RX3 is welcome to ride along.  In fact, if you have an RC3, consider yourself invited, too (I’ve done Baja a couple of times on sports bikes, so it’s doable).

Anyway, several of you have asked about luggage options for the TT250.   That’s a good question…I had not thought about it much.   I looked at what we have available and here are a few approaches to consider.

The first approach is to simply add our rear rack and the RX3 top case, as you see in the photos below…

csc-6000-3-650

csc-6000-9-650

The above approach has the advantage of being able to lock the topcase.   The rear rack is $89.95, and the complete topcase goes for $119.95 (including the lock and key).

The next approach is to use our Wolfman soft luggage.  There are many options here, but I’m going to show you the ones I think make sense on the TT250.   Bear in mind that our upcoming 4-day Baja trip won’t require carrying too much, and most people (especially if they’re new to adventure touring) tend to pack way to much stuff.  In the near future, I’ll do another post on what I’m planning to bring for this ride.

Anyway, back to the main attraction, and that’s the luggage options.   The first one that I like a lot (and it’s what I’m going to use) is a set of the Wolfman E-12 saddlebags, like you see in the photo below…

151005_5561-650

The E-12s are a natural fit for the TT250, and they just look right on the bike.  We have another set that’s slightly smaller, and yet another set that’s way larger.   For my money, the E-12 bags are just right in terms of capacity and ease of mounting.  They go for $175.99.

If you feel you need more capacity, we also offer the Wolfman Overland Duffel.  Here’s what it looks like on the TT250…

151005_5563-650

There’s a lot of room in the Overland Duffel (you could live out of that one).  It goes for $159.99.

Lots of folks like tankbags, and I thought I would show one of the Wolfman options…

151005_5564-650

The one you see above is Wolfman’s Explorer model, and it sells for $149.99.  It has straps that secure the bag to the bike (it’s not a magnetic tank bag).  We also carry larger tank bags.

Lots of options here, folks.   Give us a call if you have more questions, and we’ll do whatever we can to help you.

The next company ride: October 15th

October 15th (that’s a Saturday)…we’re going to launch a half-day ride out of the Azusa plant through one of our favorite routes…

Yep, it’s Azusa Canyon, the East Fork Road, Glendora Ridge Road, lunch at the Mt. Baldy Lodge, and then back to the plant.   We’ll be leaving from here at 9:00 a.m., and we’re going to have a few goodies on sale here at the plant, too (watch for the announcement on that soon).

Glendora Ridge Road is one of my favorite rides.   The twisties and the scenery are breathtaking.    Whether you own an RC3, a TT250, or an RX3, this is one you won’t want to miss!

I hope to see you there!

Baja III and IV

I just finished that last blog post, thinking about Baja, when Steve walked over and asked, “hey, when are we going to do the next Baja ride?”

Mexico’s Rumarosa grade en route to San Felipe…check out the car wrecks down in the rocks

Okay, so here’s what I have in mind:  I’m thinking a 4-day TT250/RX3 jaunt down to San Felipe, all on secondary roads (no freeway riding in either California or Mexico) from the 27th through the 30th of October.   That would be a nice ride down through the desert, San Diego County Highway 94, into Tecate, down the Rumarosa grade, and then on San Felipe.  If you are interested, let me know quickly via the info@cscmotorcycles.com address and we’ll get the planning underway.   This will be about an 800-mile ride.

The next big Baja run will be down to Mulege (like our prior runs), and that will be an RX3-only ride in mid-March.   We’ll get to see the whales and a lot of the peninsula.  The round trip will be about 2000 miles.

Both rides are the same deal as the ones we’ve led in the past.  You’re responsible for all of your expenses (hotels, meals, fuel, etc.), and there’s no charge for us taking you there.  We’ll be posting more in the near future, and in particular, I’ll be posting about how to outfit your TT250 with our optional soft luggage.

The 450s….

Ah, I thought I might get your attention with that heading.  Nope, it’s not the new RX4 (as soon as I learn more about the Zongshen 450 I’ll share it with you; right now, it’s looking like it might be available as a 2018 model).

The 450s I mentioned in the title of this blog are a Honda Rebel 450 and a Yamaha dirt bike.  They were both in this week (one for sale and one for service).

First, the Honda (I didn’t even know Honda had a 450 Rebel).  It’s for sale…

Here’s another cool motorcycle…a CSC150, the first bike that CSC offered a few years ago…

151001_5557-650

And two more cruisers, both Harleys…

151001_5553-650

151001_5554-650

Interesting stuff…several years ago, I rode one of the CSC150 Mustangs all the way down to Cabo and back.   About 20 years before that, I made the same trip (the Baja peninsula journey) on a Harley Softail, similar to the one you see above).  150cc or 1340cc…they both got the job done.   I thought doing the trip on the 150cc CSC Mustang was more fun.

And one more, a Yamaha dirt bike that Gerry serviced yesterday…I think that one might have been a 450, too.

If you’re interested in the CSC150, the Harleys, or the Rebel, give us a call at 909 445 0900.

Wrapping up Mariposa…

We’re home now, after a weekend in Mariposa that was both fun and disappointing.   It was fun because I was able to see old friends and make new ones, and I was able to share the stories about my RX3 adventures in Colombia and China.  It was disappointing because of the attendance.  I would guess the attendance at HU Mariposa 2016 was less than half of what it was last year.   But it was still fun.   Hopefully, next year will be a better-attended event.

I gave my presentation on the Colombia ride Friday afternoon, and I had a nice crowd with lots of questions.  That was fun.   We stayed for Sam Manicom’s late evening presentation on his travels through Asia and Iran, and that was extremely interesting.   He’s a cool guy who tells a great story and gives a wonderful presentation.

When we arrived at the Horizons Unlimited event Saturday morning, it was so empty that Sue and I decided to take a ride up California 49 (the Gold Rush Highway) to Coulterville.  It’s a little town 27 miles north of Mariposa.  The road was spectacular….

150925_5387-650

That’s the Merced River you see off in the distance, with a very photogenic bridge.  It had a sign warning people not to jump off of it.

150925_5404-650

The scenery that morning was as good as any I have ever seen in California.  I’d like to organize a run up there just to ride Highway 49 again.  If any of you folks are interested, let me know.

We were lucky…there was car show going on in downtown Coulterville, and there were lots of photo ops…it was the perfect place to play with the 8mm wide-angle lens…

Later in the afternoon on Saturday, I gave my presentation on the China ride.  It was well attended.  I think the road photos impressed people the most…the folks in my audience had no idea the roads in China were as good as my photos revealed.  China sure was an exotic trip.

Our good buddy Rob was at Mariposa this weekend.  Rob is a real RX3 aficionado…he rode an Iron Butt day on his RX3 (I wrote about that previously right here on the CSC blog), and he rode with us for a few days on our 5000-mile Western America Adventure Ride.   It was good to see Rob again…

150925_5482-650

We went to another incredible talk late Saturday afternoon presented by Peter Day, CEO of Mosko Moto luggage.   It turns out that Peter loves to travel the world and his approach is this:  He flies into whatever third-world country he wants to tour with no motorcycle and no firm plans, he finds and buys a used Chinese motorcycle wherever he goes (central America, Africa, you name it), he rides for a month or two or three, and when he feels like returning, he sells the bike there.  Peter especially likes Chinese bikes based on the CG engine, and he was very excited when he saw our TT250.   He threw a set of his luggage on the TT250 and used our bike during his presentation, which we thought was great.   Peter’s presentation was as much a commercial for the TT250 as it was about his travels, and that was okay by us!

150925_5491-650

And folks, that was about it.  We made the trek home from Mariposa today just fine.  It was a good weekend, and it made me anxious to get back out on the road on my motorcycle.  I’m riding my TT250 to work tomorrow, and I’m already looking forward to it.
