Antique Motorcycle Drag Races

This Thursday night at our local drag strip there is antique motorcycle drag races. You can bet we will be there with a couple San Gabriel Cafe Racers. This is exciting, That’s right you read it right here, we are going to run the San Gabriel down the drag strip. We will take a lot of pictures and post it right here on the blog this weekend. If your local come on out to the track, its $10.00 to watch and only $20.00 to race.

Come on out and see who will be riding the San Gabriel down the drag strip, will it be Joey, Gerry or Wade and Willie? It might even be Joe Berk!

See you there.

The CSC SG250 is the Cheapest New Motorcycle Out There

You know that $1.9 million motorcycle created by Harley-Davidson? The blue one with diamonds embedded into the handlebars, and foot-pegs plated in gold? I was doing some budgeting earlier this week and figuring out the numbers to buy you one, but then I came back to reality. What if some of you didn’t like that shade of blue? I didn’t want to put you in that position, so I decided to do my research and find something a little more reasonable in the color sector!

All jokes aside, there are various motorcycle brands popping up and creating new rides to compete with the top dogs. And while some people might have their own personal opinion about competition, I firmly believe that competition forces established brands to work even harder. When we’re surrounded by bike makers that are constantly striving to reach the top, that means better options for us. So what’s not to like?

Where did my research land me? Say hello to a motorcycle company by the name of CSC. While they’re new to the game of motorcycle innovation and creation, they’re trying to make up for their lack of history by allowing you to keep a few more bucks  in your pocket! They’re trying to change the standard price expected when you buy a motorcycle, and if you’re in the market for something that’s a bit more cost effective than your favored Harley, this might just be the bike for you.

Their new SG250 Cafe Racer only cost $1,995, and if that number doesn’t shock you, then I feel like your budget expectations are just a little too far removed and you can afford that $1.9 million Harley. But for the rest of us, this is a price that’s pretty unheard of within the industry. There’s always the chance that, with a lot of hunting and research, you can buy a used ride that’s this price. But a brand new bike? Pinch me, this is a dream. But not too hard, I tend to bruise easily.

While the look and feel of this bike might not be favored by everyone, that’s the beauty of the industry. There’s a bike out there to please every individual person, no matter how “out there” their style might be. And if I can predict who’s going to favor this bike the most, of course it’s going to be the millennial’s. This will especially be the case if they’re brand new to riding, and they want their first bike to be a price that’s a bit more manageable.

Most people don’t go and splurge on a $25,000 Harley when they first learn how to ride, because there’s always the chance that an accident might happen or you don’t fall in love with the way of life like you thought you would. This is perfect for those people because it will allow them to start to feel confident riding on the road, all without a hole burned in their pocket. This is also an awesome option for someone who wants an additional, manageable bike to take out for a ride. You might love your tour bike, but sometimes you want to ride something a little more simplistic, I get it. This is an option to consider!

But that’s not where it ends with CSC, because they’re looking to put the bike experience directly into the hands of the owner. They create in-depth, online material and tutorials to explain how to fix any issues that the bike might have. And while other companies create similar content, these tutorials are detailed and specific to the exact bike you own. Which is awesome.

Personally, I really struggled to decide between the $1.9 million Harley and this CSC $1,995 option. I almost bought the Harley, but then I realized the 5-carat diamond ring it comes with probably wouldn’t fit my finger, so I’d probably opt for the CSC instead. It’s all about being realistic.

Thanks to the gang over at Rumble-on, And thank you Cam for writing such a great piece on our new San Gabriel.

The first shipment of the San Gabriel are due in at the beginning of July, So if you are interested in reserving one go to our website and get your deposit in.

CHARGING THE CITY SLICKER

We have had a lot of questions about how you charge the City Slicker, Such as, is the battery removable, and what kind of plug do you use to charge it.

Here are some answers to most of the questions and some photos to show what we are talking about.

The battery is removable, it takes about 5 seconds to take it out. Disconnect the red main cable, unscrew the pigtail and twist the key in the side lock and it slides right out.

The battery has two handles attached to make it easy to carry. The battery weighs 35.2 LBS. If you are close to a power outlet when you need to charge the battery you can just plug it in, you do not have to remove the battery to charge it.

The City Slicker comes with its own charger and cables, it plugs into a standard household plug, the other end plugs into the receptacle on the right side of the bike.

This is a shot of the charger plugged into the bike with the battery still in the compartment.

The charger and cables fit nicely into the gas tank with plenty of room for other things.

We are riding the City Slickers every day and are continuing to find out more details everyday, this is a cool little bike and a blast to ride. If you have any questions please let us know and we will do our best to get answers to you as we can.

Farewell Joe

It is with mixed emotions that I announce the retirement of Joe Berk from CSC Motorcycles. Joe has been a dear friend, riding partner, and with his dedication, helped build CSC Motorcycles to what it has become today.

For 9 years Joe has been instrumental in his role as our Business Development Consultant.  From sourcing new models, building relationships with vendors, friendships with our valued customers to being the primary point of contact for new model introductions with the press, industry and our riders.  His contribution has been invaluable to CSC Motorcycles.  From his overseas relationships to heading up our amazing CSC adventure rides, that were so well planned and loved by all, Joe Berk turned business relationships into friendships for the betterment of CSC.

While we say “Good Bye” to Joe as a vital component at CSC, we also “Welcome” him to a well-deserved retirement.   We will continue to share the road ahead on our Blog and do our best to maintain the quality of his posts.  Me, Maureen and the CSC crew will miss his insight, knowledge, passion and more importantly his smile and great personality around the office.

Joe, there are truly no words I can use to express my gratitude.  We are indebted to your years of vision and commitment, for propelling CSC from a start up to a nationally recognized motorcycle brand; your efforts have helped assure our success into the coming years and for that we’ll always be grateful.

Enjoy your newfound freedom, I hope we can work together on future projects when your time permits. Whenever you’re riding near Foothill Blvd, please turn in and visit us as often as possible.  Ride on…..!

Steve

Adios!

So, as the saying goes all good things must come to an end, and after 9 years and 2576 blog entries, this is it for me. That may come as a shocker for some (and maybe a relief for others), but it’s time. I’ve mentioned it before and I’ll say it again…in all that time and over all those blog posts, not once did Steve or Maureen tell me what to say, what to cover, or what to do. My orders back in December 2009 were to write about the things I thought were interesting, and to not just be another form of advertising for CSC.

And that’s what I did.

I retired from Cal Poly as an engineering professor a little more than a year ago, and I got to thinking that maybe it was time to fully retire from everything I was doing. After thinking long and hard about it, I realized I didn’t want to work forever (hey, I’m 67), but I also realized I didn’t want to just slam on the brakes and do nothing. I’m going to start a motorcycle-themed website, I want to do more writing, and I want to travel more. In fact, I just got off the phone with my good buddy John Welker (you know him as Baja John) and we’re already setting up our next Baja ride.

I’m leaving CSC at what I think is a good time. Revzilla published a great article on the City Slicker yesterday morning, the San Gabriels are inbound, TT250 sales are strong, and CSC still has the world’s best adventure touring motorcycle, the RX3. The Revzilla article called CSC a disruptor in the moto world, and although I had not seized on that word previously, I think that’s exactly what CSC is (and I’m very proud to have had a part in that). CSC is in a very good place thanks to your faith in the company, and the blog will continue.

Wowee, this has been a great ride. I’ve had a lot of fun with the blog, and the things I’ve been able to do as a result of my association with CSC have been stupendous…four moto books, the ride through the Colombian Andes (thanks Enrique, Juan, and Carlos), the Western America Adventure Ride (the adventure ride that really put the RX3 on the map), the ride across China (featured this month in RoadRUNNER magazine; thanks Fan, Ma, Sean, Tracy, Sergeant Zuo, and crew), and, of course, our CSC Baja runs. They’ve all been amazing adventures, and none of it would have happened had it not been for my CSC involvement.

My friends…ride safe, ride often, and I’ll see you on the road!

Keeping up with Indiana Jones…

…and that’s the title of our latest RX3 adventure story, appearing in the current issue of RoadRUNNER magazine.   Here’s the title page photo…

It was an awesome adventure ride, one of the absolute best ever, and you can get to it here or on the newsstands.
