Our good buddy Arizona Craig…

I received this nice note a day or two ago from our good buddy Craig in Arizona…

Hey Joe:

I figured I’d send you an update on how things are going.  I have almost 1400 miles on my RX3 since Steve delivered it to me on the way to the Overland Expo exactly 1 month ago.  I like this bike more and more as it has broken in.  In fact, I really haven’t ridden any of my other bikes in that time.  The fuel mileage continues to blow me away – consistently high 60s with my commute involving about 7 miles of 75 mph interstate travel per day.  I put the 30 watt LED driving lamps on mine and I have to say – they are really amazing for night travel.  I’ve attached a few photos of my RX3 that may or may not prove worthy of the blog – my cell phone is quite cheap as I spend all of my spare change on motorcycles.

Also, you may take note that in one photo, my bike has blue handguards.  In the other, it has black handguards.  I think the black guards look much sharper on the blue bike.  Of course that is only an opinion.

Anyway take care for now, and if you decide you’re coming back to Northern AZ anytime in the near future please drop me a line and I’ll join up for a ride.  Ride safe!

 Craig

P.S. I know you wrote on the blog that you didn’t get a picture of me – so I also enclosed a good one of me goofing around when I put the clutch in my BMW.  It’s probably far from blogworthy, but it usually gets a good chuckle from my riding buddies.

Craig1Craig2Craig3Craig4Craig, thanks for the note…and your photos are great!   I like them all, including the photo of you on your BMW.   Somewhere I’ve got an old photo one of my friends took of me fixing my Harley…if I recall correctly, I was using a large hammer in that one, which I resorted to a lot on that bike.

I will be in Arizona sometime within the next few weeks…Baja John is moving out there, and Tucson Greg wanted to get together for a ride, too.   I’ll keep you posted.  I really like riding in Arizona, especially on 89A.    How’s lunch in Jerome sound?

Rock Store Rob on the Snake…

Our good buddy Rob just sent this photo to us…it’s from when we rode to the Rock Store on Sunday….

Cyclone-on-the-Snake-650

The photo is great, as is the road.   It’s the one that leads from the Rock Store back to Mulholland, and from there down to the Pacific.   Rob and the RX3 are awesome.

Rob, thanks for sending this to us!

Meet Gerry Edwards…

Sometimes you just get lucky, and we’re certainly in that category.   We put the word out that we wanted the best person we could possibly find to expand our tech support capabilities, manage our service department, and help us grow the service part of the business.   One of the folks whose name stood out was Gerry Edwards…

140610_3845-650

We’d already heard of Gerry by reputation.   As you know, a lot of folks who buy our bikes also own BMWs, and in BMW circles Gerry is a living legend.   When Gerry contacted us, we called our BMW buddies and the word came back quickly:  “If you can get this guy, get him.   You won’t find anybody better.”   Whoa, high praise indeed, and we did just that.

Gerry comes to us with 30 years of experience running service departments at a BMW dealership and a shorter stint as a motorcycle tech at larger dealership for the Japanese Big 4.   He knows his stuff.

Gerry rode the RX3 and he loves it.   And make no mistake, Gerry is one of us.   I asked him what he likes to do outside of work, and the answer was simple:  Motorcycles.   This is a guy who lives, eats, and breathes bikes.   Gerry has built and raced motorcycles, and he’s one of a small number of folks who digs racing sidecars.   Hmmm…that opens up some interesting concepts.    A sidecar-equipped Cyclone….but I digress.

During the interview process, Steve asked Gerry about his certifications.   Gerry holds essentially every certificate you can possibly have in the motorcycle service world.  He’s an MMI graduate, and he has all kinds of BMW endorsements and qualifications, including BMW’s highest-level certification.    I was blown away…I didn’t even know all of these different levels of technical excellence existed.  Basically, the guy has enough degrees to be a thermometer.   And he’s an easy guy to talk to.  When you call in with tech questions on maintaining your CSC Cyclone, you’ll love Gerry.

Ah, lots of good stuff happening, folks.   More photos are filtering in from you, and I’ll be posting them today or tomorrow.   The weekend is coming up, and I’m going to get out on my RX3.   I’ll be wheels-in-the-well on another 20-hour flight around the same time Gerry starts (I’m going to meet with my good friends in Chongqing).    Our new seat samples are due in any day, as are our 19-inch front wheels.  And you’ll catch all the action right here…when you’re not out riding your CSC motorcycles!

A Father’s Day special…

And you don’t even have to be a Dad to take advantage of it!  As a result of some crafty conversation between Steve and our shipping company, between now and Father’s Day we’ll knock $200 off your shipping costs on a new RX3.   Give us a call at 909 445 0900 for the details, and folks…don’t miss this boat on this one!

Folks…take a look…don’t you want your bike to be a part of the fun we are having?

150607_3758-pch-650

Speaking of which, I’m in the process of planning a series of adventure rides coming up soon, including a run through central California, another run up the Pacific Coast Highway to get a cool video rolling across the Golden Gate Bridge, a couple of Arizona rides, an East Coast ride, and, yep, another Baja run!

Hey, want to see the stuff of legends?

150607_3775-pch-650

We’re not just selling motorcycles…we’re selling the experience and bringing you into the world of adventure riding.   Give us a call.   We’ve got a bike with your name on it!

Karl’s kool kustom Bobber…

Our good buddy Pennsylvania Karl sent these photos to us yesterday of his kool kustom Bobber….

Bobber-650

Bobber2-650

I really like the shot with the boat in the background…great photography, Karl, and thanks for sending these to us!

Oh, by the way, Karl didn’t get a traffic ticket in the photo above.  He told us that the trooper pulled him over because he thought he spotted something hanging from the bike, but most likely, the officer just wanted a better look at a CSC 150!

A nice note from Bob…

We received this nice note and photo from our good buddy Bob in Maine this morning…

rx3_cadillac1

Hi!

I thought you guys might be interested a a picture of the  Cyclone RX3 I just put together. I’d attached a picture of it on Cadillac Mountain, Maine. It has LED auxiliary lights on the engine guard and a Givi trunk in place of the standard top box. I have not yet attached the rear luggage carrying hardware and panniers.

Since one of the many things I do is create, maintain and write articles for a number of websites, I quickly put together a site – www.rx3adventure.com – where I’ll detail the various things I find out about the RX3 and the modifications and additions I make to it. It could be of interest (and use?) to some of your RX3 customers.

So far I’m very happy with the bike.

Bob

Bob, thanks for taking the time to write to us.  I just visited your site and it is awesome; you’ve done a fine job with it.  Ride safe and I hope to see you on the road!

Two favorite videos…

As the title says, these are two of my favorites…one showing us up on Glendora Ridge Road on the CSC-150 Mustangs, and the other showing our recent Baja Inaugural Run…

That’s it for now, folks.    We actually had a bit of rain this morning, and it’s cooled off nicely here today.   Maybe I’ll get out and ride on Glendora Ridge Road a little later…it depends on how much I get done here in the office.   We’ll see….

The Rock Store, Malibu, and the PCH!

Whoa, what a day!   We rolled the 60 freeway miles out to the Rock Store at 75 mph this morning and we had a blast.   Not too many words today, folks, but lots of photos, so without further ado, here we go….

The RX3s at the Rock Store

The RX3s at the Rock Store

Okay, so a break from the photos and a few words….as you know, a couple of folks from the Tender Tushy contingent have voiced complaints about the RX3’s seat.   Seems that the CSC’s seat seams aren’t delicate enough for their derrieres.

We’re actually having a couple of options developed for us by Seat Concepts down in San Diego County, but in the meantime, Steve told us to scout the bikes at the Rock Store for new seat ideas.   We were successful…we found some ideas for our next version of the RX3 saddle…

Design Alternative No. 1 - for those wanting to sing soprano...

Design Alternative No. 1 – for those who think the RX3 seat is uncomfortable.   You ride this for 10 minutes, and the RX3’s saddle starts looking real good…

Design Alternative No. 2 - the quick detach model

Okay, enough of the seat business.   I’ve already sent these photos on to Seat Concepts.   I haven’t heard back from them yet (but then, it’s Sunday…so maybe they’ll consider these inputs when they get in to work tomorrow).

More cool photos from the Rock Store…the D3300 was working overtime today, folks.   That little camera is phenomenal, and the battery life is off the charts.    But I digress…

We hung out for close to 4 hours at the Rock Store, enjoying a great breakfast, looking at and photographing the bikes, talking to the other folks who were doing the same thing we were, and answering questions about the RX3.   Folks, there was a lot of interest in these motorcycles.

We split for the Pacific Coast Highway just before noon, and the ride through the mountains on Mulholland and Kanan down to the Pacific Ocean was awesome.  Here are a few shots from the cockpit down to and along the PCH…

And folks, that’s about it.   Sorry to have bogged your computer down with all these photos, but it was that kind of day.   Just grand fun, and I can’t wait to get out for the next one.

I know you guys and gals are doing the same in your neck of the woods, so send a few photos our way and we’ll put them on the blog.

Ride safe, my friends!

Wings

I just put mine on my motorcycle jacket, and I’m ready for the ride to the Rock Store tomorrow….

140606_3494-650

I love visiting the Rock Store, and I love the riding in the hills around it.   We’re going to have a good time!

If you like the CSC wings in the photo above (Steve had them made for the CSC Inaugural Baja Run last month), give us a call and we’ll send a set out to you.   They look pretty spiffy.

And speaking of Baja…my good buddy Simon Gandolfi posted this photo on Facebook from our run to Cabo on the CSC 150s about 4 years ago.

SimonandtheManinMexico

I shot that photo in Ciudad Constitucion in southern Baja.   That’s my red CSC 150 in front.   The Mexican motor officer pulled us over just to get a look at our bikes.   I told him to give me the keys to his Suzuki police bike because I wanted to see how fast it would go, and we all had a good laugh!

That was a great ride…we did 2300 miles on the California Scooters, all the way down to Cabo San Lucas and back.

We’re having a dinner party tonight and Sue tells me I’m making stuffed shells, so I’ve got to get the meat sauce started.  Later, my friends, and watch for the Rock Store photos tomorrow night.   If you’re a So Cal person, we hope to see you up at the Rock Store!
