New slippers…

The fork seals were leaking on my KLR 650, so I brought it into the shop and Gerry installed a new set.   He replaced the fork oil, too, and as a result the KLR handling is considerably better than it was.    As you know, we work on all motorcycles, so if you have a bike that requires the touch of real experts, please give us a call to schedule an appointment.

The KLR is still no RX3, but its handling is crisper, and that would not have happened without Gerry’s magic touch.   We see a lot of different bikes in here…Hondas, Kawis, Yamahas, Suzukis, Harleys, BMWs, you name it.  If you need your bike freshened up, please give us a call at 909 445 0900.

Dong owns an RX3, and he rode one of the new RX1s on the China ride.   I really like Dong’s video because of the “on the road” segments….he captured a lot of what it was like riding in China.   This is great stuff, folks.   I miss those guys and I miss riding in China!

The TT250 + 17T/49T = Wow!

Yep, that header above is not an exaggeration.  Gerry installed a 49T rear sprocket on my TT250 yesterday, and my reaction once I was on the road was indeed a hearty Wow!

Our TT250s come stock with a 17T/50T sprocket combination.  I know, we let a few of them get out of here with a 15T front sprocket (the 15T/50T combo is the way Zongshen shipped the first group of TT250s to us; that gear combo is for pulling stumps and climbing walls).   Our stock configuration is the 17T front sprocket with the 50T rear; that’s a good all-around approach for off-road and surface street riding.

We decided to try the rear sprocket with one less tooth (my bike’s current 17T/49T combination), and it completely changed the character of the motorcycle.   The bike pulls an indicated easy 70 mph on the freeway (indeed, on one slightly downhill stretch I saw an indicated 75 mph), and it is quite content cruising at 60 to 65 mph.  For the record, I weigh 180 lbs.  This 17T/49T sprocket setup is what I’m going to leave on my TT250.   It’s going to be perfect for the upcoming Baja run.  Oh, and one more thing…the 17T/49T combo works with the stock chain.

We’ll have the 49T sprockets available with spacers  in the very near future (the stock TT250 rear sprocket is an unusual dished arrangement, so you need the spacers).  If you want one, let us know.

I have a R1200GS and a KLR 650 both great bikes but the RX3 has proven that you don’t need big HP to have loads of fun when blasting around the hills of Western Massachusetts and Vermont.

Thanks for your note, Russ.   Your photos are outstanding and the idea of a New England ride is a great one.  I rode through your area on a CB750 trip from New Jersey to Montreal when I was in college, and I sure would like to do that again.  It’s a great idea.  Let me bounce it around with the folks here at CSC and we’ll see what emerges.

You know, a very large number of RX3 owners have several bikes, with the GS1200 being the one most commonly mentioned.   I once rode a GS and it is a great motorcycle.   I also still own my KLR 650 (it’s a cool bike, too), but I don’t think I’ve put 500 miles on it since I started riding my RX3.  You know how that goes.  I tried to sell the KLR and we even had it on the showroom floor here at CSC, but nobody opted for it over the RX3.   I decided to keep the KLR mostly because I couldn’t find anyone to buy it.

Great hearing from you, Russ, and thanks for the recommendation for a New England ride.   We’ll give it serious consideration!

A great morning…

Ah, life is good, folks.   I rode my TT250 in to work this morning, and that puppy is running strong.   The weather is crisp here in So Cal, my TT250 is running great, and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride this morning.

Our ride to San Felipe is coming up soon, and if you want to ride with us, shoot me an email.  We’re up to 5 guys now (not counting myself), and we’ll take one or two more.   The ride will be surface streets only (no freeways) and we are encouraging our TT250 riders to join us (I’m taking my TT250).   But if you want to ride your RX3, that’s cool, too.

We’ll spend a day exploring Riverside and San Diego counties on the way down to Tecate, and I can tell you those roads are incredible.   Great riding.   We’ll spend our first night on the other side of the border in Tecate and take in a great Mexican dinner, and then it’s on down to San Felipe the next day, with a bit of exploration thrown in south of San Felipe.   Good stuff.   I’ll have a more detailed itinerary up in a bit.  In the meantime, if you would like to know a bit more about the area, check out this piece I did for Motorcycle Classics magazine a few years ago…

Hey, more good stuff…our good buddy Reuben (who rode with us on the first CSC Baja run) just finished his USA Four Corners run on his RX3.   That’s hitting all four corners of the United States on an RX3 250cc motorcycle…about 11,000 miles in all.   What a ride, and as Reuben would say, what a life!   We’ll have the complete story here in the blog later this week.   Reuben, our congratulations…we’re proud of you!

You know, in the motorcycle business, this is usually the slowest time of the year in terms of new bike sales, but something’s happened in the last week or so…our sales are brisk!  As you’ve seen a few blogs down, we started our end-of-year-clear-the-decks sale to make room for the incoming 2017 models.   There’s never been a better time to pick up a new bike.  Give us a call!

TT250 luggage options for Baja and beyond…

We’ve had several people sign up for the “Baja-lite” 4-day ride down to San Felipe and numerous additional inquiries.   We’re doing this as a TT250 ride, but anybody who has an RX3 is welcome to ride along.  In fact, if you have an RC3, consider yourself invited, too (I’ve done Baja a couple of times on sports bikes, so it’s doable).

Anyway, several of you have asked about luggage options for the TT250.   That’s a good question…I had not thought about it much.   I looked at what we have available and here are a few approaches to consider.

The first approach is to simply add our rear rack and the RX3 top case, as you see in the photos below…

The above approach has the advantage of being able to lock the topcase.   The rear rack is $89.95, and the complete topcase goes for $119.95 (including the lock and key).

The next approach is to use our Wolfman soft luggage.  There are many options here, but I’m going to show you the ones I think make sense on the TT250.   Bear in mind that our upcoming 4-day Baja trip won’t require carrying too much, and most people (especially if they’re new to adventure touring) tend to pack way to much stuff.  In the near future, I’ll do another post on what I’m planning to bring for this ride.

Anyway, back to the main attraction, and that’s the luggage options.   The first one that I like a lot (and it’s what I’m going to use) is a set of the Wolfman E-12 saddlebags, like you see in the photo below…

The E-12s are a natural fit for the TT250, and they just look right on the bike.  We have another set that’s slightly smaller, and yet another set that’s way larger.   For my money, the E-12 bags are just right in terms of capacity and ease of mounting.  They go for $175.99.

If you feel you need more capacity, we also offer the Wolfman Overland Duffel.  Here’s what it looks like on the TT250…

There’s a lot of room in the Overland Duffel (you could live out of that one).  It goes for $159.99.

Lots of folks like tankbags, and I thought I would show one of the Wolfman options…

The one you see above is Wolfman’s Explorer model, and it sells for $149.99.  It has straps that secure the bag to the bike (it’s not a magnetic tank bag).  We also carry larger tank bags.
