A nice note from Joel…

I was super busy during the last few days working a couple of hot projects and I didn’t get around to posting this nice note and super set of photos from our good buddy Joel…

Hey Joe,

I thought you might enjoy these pics and videos from my trip up Webster Pass in Colorado yesterday.

I’m on the red RX3 and Mark rode his TT250. It was about 20 miles off-road plus another 140 miles or so on pavement. We crossed the Continental Divide twice, once off-road at Webster Pass (12,103 ft) and again on road at Loveland Pass (11,990 ft).

The RX3 did great, especially considering it’s an adventure bike with off-road capability, not an off-road bike that’s streetable.

I’m running without the bars and side boxes and have the 19″ front wheel, Shinko 804/805 adventure tires, lower than stock gearing (13T/45T) and progressive shock with 375/465 spring. A lithium iron battery too.

We were riding with guys on a DR650 and Bashan 200. Their bikes outclassed mine off-road, but I did everything they did. Except for the DR650, mine was still faster on road. Even with my low gearing, I could easily do 70/75 mph. But I arguably had the best on road handling of them all.

I love it!  Wow, two up on a TT250 through Baja!  This intrepid team of tandem riders flew out from upstate New York, picked up their new TT, and pointed the front wheel south!  I was in the plant this morning when they returned, and I grabbed the above photo.   Congratulations on your extraordinary adventure, Nate and Alyssa!

Geezer pleasers…

I love Chevys and I especially love Corvettes.   I bought one 12 years ago brand new, a Z06, because it was the deal of the century.   I was eligible for the GM employee discount back then and I just couldn’t walk away from a deal like that…

I’ve been driving my Z06 since then, and it has been great.  Fast, reliable, good fuel economy, and it always makes me feel good.  I know they’re old guy cars and all that.  I just think they are the ultimate in cool transportation.

Well, last night, I felt my Z06 brakes shudder and the car flashed a warning message to service the active handling system.  No big deal, I thought.  I’m due.  So I stopped at the local Chevy dealer and they are taking care of it for me, along with all of the other routine maintenance I never had done.  It will be a hefty maintenance bill, but amortized over 12 years it’s actually pretty cheap.

I couldn’t let that opportunity (being at the Chevy dealer) go to waste.  I asked where the new Corvettes were and they showed me.  The dealer had a brand new 2016 Z06 in stock.  I sat in it.  It was awesome. It was the right color for a Z06, too…

Before adding any of the dealer fees, taxes, documentation fees, etc., that new Z06 cost almost exactly 2.5 times what I paid for mine 12 years ago.   That was an eye opener.   The other thing I noticed is that the new Corvette seems to be substantially larger than mine.  But it was nice.   Not two and a half times as nice, but still nice.  In fact, I don’t think it was even as nice as my Z06.  I like mine.

I think I just saved $109,363.00.

Scott’s cool stroker pickup…

Our good buddy Scott stopped by this morning, reminding me again about one of the coolest aspects of working with CSC.  We get to see some really dynamite vehicles here at the Scooter shop, like this ultra cool Chevy pickup with a 383-cubic-inch stroker motor…

A nice note from Kevin…

Hey, I received this nice note from our good buddy Kevin a few minutes ago…

Joe!

First off, I was reading through the BARF thread you linked in the blog. Nice work dealing with them. I’m glad they haven’t managed to get under your skin.  I love my TT250 and am very happy with my purchase and the service I’ve gotten from you fine folks.

On a more entertaining note, I thought I would send you the link to some of my pictures of adventures on my TT! I use imgur to host my pictures since I don’t like bothering with resizing the photos and I can conveniently share to lots of fora.

I’m not very good at riding in the dirt just yet, but I’m really enjoying the learning process. My first big dirt ride was up the mountain near my house to some radio towers, overlooking Utah Lake. I got into some rather more advanced terrain than I could handle, but the bike came through without major damage, just a broken brake lever mount. Replacing the reservoir/mount worked out very well for me, since it took the mediocre-at-best front brake performance and immediately brought it up to standard. For future reference, it may be worth flushing the brakes just so the bikes have a better braking profile. It’s definitely on the labor- and materials-intensive side, so I understand if it’s not practical. However, my front brakes could barely make the front end dive and were utterly insufficient to hold my bike at a stop when heading down a seriously steep road. It wasn’t that the wheel was sliding, the brakes just didn’t grab enough to stop the wheel from spinning with the lever all the way to the grip. Here’s the link to the gallery from that trip.

Anyway, I replaced that and have been riding around, performing various bits of maintenance as I go, and having a great time! The second gallery is from a quick trip on my way home from work up a little canyon to an overlook from which you can see the Salt Lake Valley and down into the Bingham Canyon Mine, which is one of, if not the biggest open-pit mines in the world. It’s pretty impressive, and the TT250 handled the road up really well! Here’s the link to that gallery.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to many miles (km) of riding, and I hope to make it to a Baja ride one of these days.

Feel free to use any words or images from this email or those two galleries. Keep up the great business! Let the naysayers do their thing, because I love the value and service I’ve received from CSC.

Kevin

Kevin, thanks for taking the time to write to us, and we are glad you are enjoying your new TT250.  The guys over on BARF are not an issue; it is entertaining for us to read what they have to say and they are actually giving us a lot of free publicity.  The pattern of comments from the naysayers follows a fairly predictable trajectory, and it’s easy to let them run their course.  One thing I’ve noticed lately is that there are far fewer people bashing the bike simply because it is Chinese.   What’s almost always present is that more than a few of the bashers are employed by one or more of our competitors (that’s very predictable), and they never reveal that until someone else exposes them (they always hide behind screen names).  It happened again just this morning on that BARF board.  Ah, well, it’s all in a day’s work, I guess.  It’s fun.

Regarding the front brake on your bike, I’ll talk to Gerry and make sure we’re checking them on all bikes.  Thanks for the feedback.

An interesting discussion…

…has been going on for the last few days on a forum we had never heard of until we published our latest press release on the new CSC RZ3.  It’s on a board called BARF (no kidding, that’s what they call it) and I think it stands for Bay Area Riders Forum.   They evidently are a bunch of guys up in the San Francisco area.  One guy started the thread by posting a link to our press release and it took off from there.  It seems a couple of the folks on that board wanted to badmouth us by using…well, I’ll let you read it and see for yourselves.  I added a few comments, and you might want to as well.  It’s very entertaining, I think, and you can get to it here:
